Gnosis VPN

Uncensorable open internet

A decentralized, trustless, uncensorable VPN for the web3 age. Gnosis has committed to building the open internet, and true openness requires anonymity.

Anonymity by HOPR

Gnosis VPN is built on top of the decentralized HOPR mixnet to ensure full anonymity for users. Requests are relayed via multiple nodes, ensuring that no-one can identify the source.

Choose an exit node to select a location, just like a regular VPN. Thanks to HOPR, even the exit node cannot see your IP address.

Built for Web3

Gnosis VPN is built for a web3 world.

That’s easy to say, but what does it mean to truly move on from Web 2.0 thinking and build for an anonymous open internet?

Developing Gnosis VPN meant committing to:

  • No user tracking of any kind
  • No centralized RPC providers
  • No centralized indexer
  • No APIs leaking user metadata
  • No centrally hosted infrastructure

But once we strip all that out, can Gnosis VPN actually work? Yes, and it looks like this!

Features

We’ve talked about what a web3 VPN needs to avoid, but what are the upsides? Here’s the amazing things Gnosis VPN can do that are only possible because of its web3 foundations:

The future

Here are some of the upcoming features we're excited about.

Edge Nodes

Adding lightweight nodes to the network reduces technical requirements and allows mobile devices to use the underlying mixnet without relying on a few centralized gateway nodes.

Streamlined UX

A good VPN is seamless. Gnosis VPN v1 will have massively reduced time to first connection by eliminating node setup. Future versions will abstract away the crypto components to scale up the userbase.

Anonymous Return Path

Anonymous internet browsing is particularly challenging, because VPN exit nodes need to serve requests without learning your IP. HOPR’s return path implementation gives users full control while still fairly rewarding node runners.

Standing on the shoulders of giants

Gnosis VPN is built on top of some of the most established web3 infrastructure projects, including:

HOPR logo

HOPR

The HOPR mixnet provides anonymous bandwidth for any sort of application. Gnosis VPN provides VPN services on top of this anonymity layer.

Gnosis Chain logo

Gnosis Chain

Gnosis VPN needs a maximally resilient and decentralized chain as a trust anchor for censorship-resistant retrieval of HOPR mixnet topology and settling transactions.

Safe logo

Safe

Every Gnosis VPN node manages access to the HOPR tokens it needs to function via a Safe smart account powered by HOPR Safe Staking.

Libp2p logo

Libp2p

Gnosis VPN uses the same transport library that powers Gnosis Chain, Ethereum, HOPR and many other web3 projects.

Gnosis VPN development was funded by Gnosis DAO under GIP-98 and GIP-122.
